چکیده
UNLABELLED Percutaneous balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV) was a rare procedure in catheterization laboratories because of its limited prognostic impact. The recent advent of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has led to a resurgence of BAV, opening the way to a new indication as a bridge to TAVI. Herein, we reported an 83-year-old man with critical aortic valve stenosis and pulmonary edema, who strongly declined surgical aortic valve replacement. He also lacked financial support or insurance reimbursement for TAVI. He received BAV for relief of syncope, pulmonary edema and impending respiratory failure 4 times within 4 years and was successfully bridged to TAVI after receiving charity aid funding from the hospital. KEY WORDS Aortic valve stenosis; Balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV); Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).

Introduction: With the development of interventional cardiology in the world, in addition to coronary and aortic diseases, the treatment of heart valve diseases through catheters has recently begun. The treatment of aortic stenosis (which was only possible with open surgery and valve replacement) was first performed in the world in 2002 by Alain Cribier in France with catheter insertion of the ...

Background: Balloon valvuloplasty is a relatively new technique for relief of obstruction of aortic valve. The primary results of this procedure are similar to surgical valvotomy with fewer complications and mortality. Materials and methods: One hundred fifty-five patients with congenital aortic stenosis were enrolled in this study over a period of 6 years (1991-1997). Participants were all un...

Abstract Background: Balloon valvuloplasty uses for treatment of aortic stenosis from 20 years ago. Regarding loss of information about results of balloon valvuloplasty of hereditary aortic stenosis, this study was done to determine prognosis and complication of balloon valvuloplasty during last 10 years. Methods: This study was done on existing data of all children with hereditary aortic...
متن کاملAntegrade balloon valvuloplasty for critical aortic stenosis in a premature neonate weighing 1100 g.
Experiences with invasive cardiac catheterization in low birth weight infants are few. In our clinic, we performed balloon aortic valvuloplasty by antegrade approach in a neonate weighing 1100 g with critical aortic stenosis, patent ductus arteriosus and atrial septal defect. The right femoral vein was accessed with a 4 Fr sheath, and a catheter was placed into the left ventricle from the atria...
متن کاملTiming and potential mechanisms of new conduction abnormalities during the implantation of the Medtronic CoreValve System in patients with aortic stenosis.
AIMS New-onset left bundle branch block (LBBB) and complete atrioventricular block (AV3B) frequently occur following transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). We sought to determine the timing and potential mechanisms of new conduction abnormalities (CAs) during TAVI, using the Medtronic CoreValve System (MCS). METHODS AND RESULTS Sixty-five consecutive patients underwent TAVI with cont...
